Small business comes together to support Startup Canada

Startup Canada has been on a national campaign to boost entrepreneurship across the country for months, and is highlighting some of the small businesses that have supported it along the way with just one month of events left on its schedule.

The national movement spear-headed by Victoria Lennox began in the Maritimes in March and is currently on hiatus until September. Then it will do a final leg of its town halls and entrepreneur-inspiring events in Ontario and British Columbia. In its most recent newsletter, Startup Canada gives credit to the entrepreneurs that have taken up the torch and assisted with services and volunteer hours.

Blab Media, for example, has provided social media support to the campaign. Co-founders Jessica Apollini and Katie Stokes just began a social media campaign Aug. 20 that will last for two weeks. The campaign will take place across Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn channels and offer a chance to win prizes. The Windsor, Ont.-based firm offers social media, blogging services, search engine optimization, and analytics reports to businesses.

Material support to the campaign was provided by Kick Ass Media, a Toronto-based business that provided display tables, and PubliAir provided inflatable promotional materials to give the campaign events some flair.

Other small businesses that weren?t supporting the campaign directly still chipped in to the spirit of things by offering promotional rates or other deals to entrepreneurs. Video animation firm Switch Video is offering Canadian startups a special August promotion to get help explaining what they do with a short video.

It?s nice to see the good will generated in the business community by Startup Canada?s efforts. Even in a digital age where the challenges of space and time are eliminated for a large country to collaborate and feel connected, sometimes it still takes a physical presence to make us feel linked.
